James Whitmee

I am in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic looking at the residential real estate market.

It is difficult to travel around the city on foot because pavements either don't exist, or they are very small (less than 0.5 metres width on a 4-lane road near where my hotel is in Naco), or people have parked cars on them.

I have been focusing on the area to the north of the city and looking at some of the large land tracts such as Los Robles and Paseo del Rio.

The residential market is very much focused on apartments, and the local real estate magazine, immobiliar.com, is full of new high-rise opportunities.

Rents on the best quality houses are in the order of USD 3,000-5,000 /month.
